Eligibility

 
 
1. Q.  How do I know if I'm eligible for the Development Hardware Offering?
  A.  Please see the complete eligibility requirements for Development Hardware Offering. Eligible partner types for the Development Hardware Offering include ISVs, IHVs, OEMs , and System Integrators. Solution Providers (such as Consultants, Trainers and Web Designers) are NOT eligible to participate. Equipment purchased through this offering is to be used for development purposes only.

2. Q.  As a Sun Reseller am I eligible to purchase Development Hardware?
  A.  If a Sun Reseller meets the requirements of the Development Hardware Offering, they are eligible to apply. Equipment purchased through this offering is to be used for development purposes only.

3. Q.  Is the Development Hardware Offering a Worldwide Program and if so, how do I know if the offering is available in my country?
  A.  Yes, the Development Hardware Offering is currently available in 27 countries (subject to change):

4. Q.  How and where do I apply?
  A.  To apply for the Development Hardware Offering, you must be an approved participant in the Sun Partner Advantage Program. This Offering is available to Sun Partner Advantage Program participants at the Associate Partner level and above. Apply for the Program.

5. Q.  How long does it take to receive approval to participate in the Development Hardware Offering?
  A.  Approval takes a maximum of 10 business days for new applicants.

6. Q.  How do I find out if I am accepted into the Offering?
  A.  Sun's Customer Contact Center will notify you via email. The notification will contain your hardware agreement number.

7. Q.  Once I am accepted, how long is my Development Hardware agreement/contract valid?
  A.  The Development Hardware contract is valid for 12 months. The renewal date always falls on the last calendar day of your renewal month.

8. Q.  What types of hardware are available?
  A.  A wide range of hardware configurations and options are available, including: CoolThreads technology-based servers featuring our cutting-edge Sun SPARC Enterprise T5000 line, Sun Fire x64 servers, Sun Blades, Sun Netra Servers, Storage, SunRays, desktops, workstations, and monitors. 9. Q.  Is software included when I buy hardware and are there any software offers that I can take advantage of?
  A.  Most Development Hardware Offering Systems come pre-installed with Sun Java Enterprise System Software and the Solaris 10 Operating System.

10. Q.  What is the difference between Development Hardware Offering Discounts and Standard Hardware Discounts?
  A.  As an authorized Development Hardware Offering partner, we give you the additional choice to buy any individual product from the complete line of Sun products with set category discounts including categories A, B, E, F, G, H, J, K, M, and P (varies worldwide). This provides the freedom to tailor a solution that meets your exact requirements, while still maintaining a discounted price. Development Hardware Offering systems are Category D products, which offer the greatest savings (~20-80%).

Pricing, Ordering and Restrictions

 
 
11. Q.  What are my purchasing options?
  A.  In the Development Hardware Offering, there are two ways to purchase:

Partners can change their purchasing affiliation only once per year and need to have at least three months remaining on their contract. This change can be done within the Membership Center by clicking on the "Change Purchasing Method" link from the "Technology and Products" tab.

Purchasing procedures also vary worldwide and more information on this can be found in the membership center. If assistance is needed, please contact the Customer Contact Center.

12. Q.  Where do I find equipment pricing?
  A.  Specific system pricing is accessible (and updated bimonthly) in the Membership Center for partners who are approved to participate in the Development Hardware Offering. You may access the Membership Center. Login information will be provided in your email acceptance notification.

13. Q.  Do I need to order equipment locally?
  A.  Equipment must be purchased within the country it is being used. We do not allow purchases to be made within one country and then shipped to another.

14. Q.  How long will it take to receive the products I have ordered?
  A.  Lead times for delivery vary depending on product.

15. Q.  Are refunds or exchanges available?
  A.  No. This program offers highly discounted equipment and does not allow for exchanges or refunds.

16. Q.  How do I find out what my annual purchasing limit is and how long is it valid for?
  A.  Your annual purchasing limit information is accessible in the Membership Center. Annual purchasing limits vary by country due local regulations. Please contact the Customer Contact Center nearest you for more information. The annual purchasing limits commence on the Development Hardware Offering approval date and end 12 months from that approval date. If you decide to renew your contract, the purchasing limit is reset on the last calendar day of your renewal month.

17. Q.  Is there a maximum or minimum purchase quantity or amount?
  A.  Yes. The offering has annual maximum dollar limits which vary by country. There are no minimum purchase requirements.

18. Q.  What warranty support is included?
  A.  Products purchased through the Development Hardware Offering are covered by standard warranty. Terms of the coverage vary by product, view more details. As a special benefit to Development Hardware Offering partners who would like to upgrade their standard warranty plan, SunSpectrum Support is discounted at up to 32% (within 90 days of your hardware purchase and not offered on systems purchased through category discounts).

19. Q.  What kind of technical support is available?
  A.  Free technical assistance is available to eligible partners on a best-effort basis. Technical questions covered include:
  • Migration to or adoption of your new Sun product
  • Help with installation and configuration
  • Advice about using a new software feature
  • Integrating your company's software product with Sun products
A support specialist will respond to your inquiry within three business days. Visit the Developer Support offering to obtain assistance.
