On September 29, 2009, Sun announced Ops Center 2.5, a highly scalable management solution for both physical and virtual systems that combines provisioning, patching, managing and monitoring through a single console, along with automated workflows to help IT departments regain control over system sprawl, provide more flexible infrastructure, ensure greater system compliance, and reduce IT costs.
Ops Center is designed to address the unique Systems Management challenges of Sun server infrastructure while also extending to heterogeneous environments to make overall Systems Management easier for administrators. It combines Sun's legacy expertise in life-cycle management of Sun servers, with new capabilities to manage the life-cycle of virtual servers from Sun's built-in virtualization technologies such as Solaris Containers and Logical Domains.
