1. Q.  What is Open Storage Initiative?

  A.  Open Storage Initiative is a strategic Sun initiative to combine open source software with industry standard hardware to change the way the world stores, accesses, and manages its data. Open Storage Initiative reduces storage costs by up to 90% when compared to costly, proprietary and closed storage systems.

2. Q.  Why would an ISV care about Open Storage Initiative?

  A.  Our respective Enterprise customers face relentless pressure from data growth, rising energy costs, and regulated or self-imposed requirements for data retention. Open Storage Initiative systems enable our joint customers to consolidate and optimize their storage infrastructures to realize significant cost, administration and eco savings, while mitigating the vendor lock-in risk associated with conventional proprietary architectures.

ISV applications deployed on Open Storage Initiative infrastructure provide customers with lower cost, more choice and greater flexibility. Demonstrating application performance and scalability with Open Storage Initiative systems will be important to customers. And, Sun is the company to help you develop a compelling alternative to compete with data services on proprietary platforms. Also, some ISVs may choose to build their own "appliances" based on Open Storage Initiative or OEM's may choose to leverage Open Storage Initiative systems. Stay tuned for announcements through the Sun Partner Advantage Program to learn more about OpenSolaris, Open Storage Initiative and additional resources. Also, ISVs that commit to support their data services applications on Open Storage Initiative systems will be highlighted through Sun Partner Advantage Program.
